How I Met Your Mother, episode 411 "Little Minnesota": from the wiki, "Marshall apologises to Robin for outing her as a Canadian, and reassures her that despite her lack of job or boyfriend she still belongs in New York with her friends." (emphasis mine)

To qualify, a text should ideally include the idea that people from not-NYC simply aren't deep like New Yorkers, don't really live--especially people from warmer climates. Warmer climates = brain atrophy in this trope. In broader terms, it embodies the suggestion that New York is where you belong, and why would you want to live anywhere else? Ideally, it should include an example of a character going away from New York but coming back and New York being somehow held up as the ideal location for a meaningful existence. However, dialogue indicating New York City's general superiority over basically every other form of existence will do in a pinch.

I bet this already exists in tvtropes, but I don't wanna look and discover I've been beaten to the punch. >>
